Fresh paint to match on 5 year old car says accident to me, no matter what the carfax tells me.

I didn't say it was accident free - the police or insurance weren't involved, however. Therefore, clean Carfax. Here's the damage:

Exactly, but to have the claim of "clean carfax" highlighted, but then have the recent repaint would make me question what might have happened to the car, as well as what else might be wrong that I can't see since the seller seems to be trying to hide things. I would certainly bid way, way low, just to cover any potential undetected flaws. Typically, if there is one deception, there will be more you didn't notice.

You shouldn't ever lean on a carfax, and who cares if the headlamp was replaced. The car was hardly in an accident, much less anything that can be considered a "wreck"

Take the Carmax appraised value, put it on CL for 10% more, and it will be gone in three days.

Yes, but if someone comes in saying "clean carfax" they are implying that the car is accident free. If you have fresh paint down the entire drives side, along with front and rear bumper, what would you think happened? That's like saying you've never shot and killed anyone, and just not mentioning the 3 people you stabbed.

I would definitely consider that, but it would require:
- Maryland State Inspection (most difficult in the country)
- Tint Removal
- Taking liability for any current issues (keyfobs need replacing, service coming up)
- Having people come to my house and ask for discounts.
If this were my personal car, I'd definitely do that (especially since trade-in value on S60R's is beyond depressing). However, with it being my mother's car, it's just easier to trade it in. She works full time, and we can't switch cars on the days I show it, as she can't drive a stick.
Plus, if traded in, the value of the current A5 gets subtracted from the sale price of the new A5. Therefore, you can look at the trade in at $22,470 (7% of 21k).

Yes, I'm in Maryland too, know the situation... the sales tax subtraction is also a plus. Good luck with it!

We've had pretty bad experiences with our Maryland Audi Dealers, so we're actually working with Audi of Tysons Corner this time!
